Shooting Ideas Down#

Yesterday at lunch with Rob, David and Jorge, I was humorously telling Rob how he shouldn’t be worried blue if David shoots down his ideas as it’s always 50-50 chance his innovation will get manager’s royal blessing. However I claimed to be more relieved since we are not lone developers facing this. Bill Gates’s sender id initiative was also shot down by IETF. [Bill Gates e-mail ID plan rejected]. Might not be the best place for this quote but it’s a good one.

Follow the path of the unsafe, independent thinker. Expose your ideas to the danger of controversy. Speak your mind and fear less the label of 'crackpot'' than the stigma of conformity. Thomas J. Watson, Sr.

I liked the senderid initiative, it had some flaws but oh well, there are always false positives for bayesian filtering too. May be IETF has an alternative, does it really?

Kevin McNeish on Architecting for the .NET Event Model#

Last Monday, Kevin McNeish spoke to LA. NET developers group September meeting. Kevin is author of Professional UML with Visual Studio .NET” (Wrox Press) and Microsoft C# MVP.

His presentation was quite informative; He discussed custom data binding in Windows & Web Form, referencing business objects as binding elements, standards for raising events, establishing relationships between business components etc. One of the many cool things in his presentation was localizing the user interface dynamically at run time, I took notes of the presentation but unfortunately didn’t get a chance to format them for my blog.

Upcoming LA.NET meeting is on Monday Oct 4th; Allison Balter and Jeffrey Hasan will be discussing the following topics.

    • New features Visual Studio 2005
    • Transport Neutral Web Services using WS-Addressing

I didn’t take this picture by any spy camera like some of my friends think I did; it wasn’t bright enough and I didn’t want to use flash. J

    Amazon beyond google basics#

Amazon.com is trying to out-Google the king of Internet search with a new site that puts a fancy face on Google's plain-Jane search results... (Washington Post)

Trying out a9.com via this  Interesting news from Washington Post, reminds me of Bill Gates saying

“In this business, by the time you realize you're in trouble, it's too late to save yourself. Unless you're running scared all the time, you're gone.“
