Google Earth – Explore, Search and Discover #

Urdu's famous classical poet Mirza Ghalib said in early 19th century;

Aur lay Aain gay bazar say agar toot gia
Jaam.e.Jim Say meray Jaam.e.Safal acha hay
[1]

Now we can have a cyber jaam-e-jim (crystal ball) right here Google Earth – Explore, Search and Discover.

  •  Fly from space to your neighborhood. Type in an address and zoom right in.
  •  Search for schools, parks, restaurants, and hotels. Get driving directions.
  •  Tilt and rotate the view to see 3D terrain and buildings.
  •  Save and share your searches and favorites. Even add your own annotations.  (src: google)

Will bring more in case it breaks
My glass of wine is better than a crystal ball

Triumph of the Nerds#

I'm having a motivation/nerd style movie marathon this weekend; it’s a way to relax after a hectic week somewhere in between working on three projects simultaneously and driving back and forth to Vegas for about 16 hours; which stands next to my only previous record of 17 hours from LA to Roswell, NM.

Anyways, Rob gave me startup.com and The Triumph of the Nerds: The Rise of Accidental Empires which, I must say are page turners of the movies. I liked Pirates of Silicon Valley but I like these more; they seem to have more substance and authenticity to it, must be because of seeing too much Gates and Jobs in it. I'm sure in 2010, there would be a full length episode about Google, from $85 to $285 and becoming an $80bn company.

Now I'm off to watch Aviator, another story of vision and enthusiasm unfolding. Now that reminds me of a quote my MIL's put on her fridge.

You never will be the person you can be if pressure, tension and discipline are taken out of your life.
Dr. James G. Bilkey

Talking about traveling, we recently drive 3500 miles in 4 days; from LA to Golden Valley, AZ, Roswell, NM, Dallas, TX, and Houston, TX and back; it was a killer trip, we had a blast. I don't know many people who have done it or even consider it as a possibility (most of them thought of us as insane). The idea was sparked from LA Times article about 14 days - 48 states which, I believe is easily achievable providing some “well wisher“convince my car rental friend to give me unlimited mileage and Microsoft MapPoint sponsorship for gas and motels to crash in. Now that I think about it, I should write down places I've been to, in case I forget :)

Asia

Pakistan, Dubai, Qatar.

Europe

England, Switzerland, France, Germany, Netherlands (Holland), Belgium

North America

United States (California, Nevada, Arizona, New Mexico, Texas, Ohio)

Now it seems like I have a whole lot to cover; Better start working on it.

The prospect of a long day at the beach makes me panic. There is no harder work I can think of than taking myself off to somewhere pleasant, where I am forced to stay for hours and 'have fun'.
